The three friends who started Austin-based EastWest a few years back very much like to do things their way. That means taking a little of the highbrow – namely a fragrance recipe designed by experts at Galimard, one of France's oldest perfumers – and giving it the spirit of a homemade tonic by brewing the final product in small batches (in folksy Greensboro, North Carolina, no less). EastWest Bottlers Moonshine is a no-BS, rough-around-the-edges, woody musk that uses traces of tobacco, gin, patchouli, and black pepper to create a subtle scent with a touch of spice. The result is the very definition of a masculine scent. Which makes it perfect for use every day. Splash; don't swig. [$76 for 3.4 oz; eastwestbottlers.com]
