A longtime Winter X Games event, slopestyle was added to draw in younger viewers and athletes. The courses are skate park-inspired gauntlets of rails to slide on, boxes, and huge jumps. Athletes were upset when the IOC released diagrams of the 2014 course early. "Typically, everyone arrives and has to figure it out on the spot," says Steele Spence, an International Ski Federation judge, who will be calling color for NBC. "The spontaneity is the coolest part. And countries like China will build exact replicas to train on."
What to watch for: The big trick is the double cork, done in both directions. "Showing you can spin both ways is a key factor in difficulty," says Spence.
