The pitch: There are many tips for separating egg yolks and whites, but it is still messy, bacteria-laden guesswork. The Pluck takes the pain out of separation, allowing healthy eaters to make egg-white omelets and bakers to work considerably faster.

The goods: The pluck seems, at first, like an as-seen-on-TV one-task fad. Then you try it and see how a little bit of suction can make your breakfast workflow that much easier.

The result: More than 10,000 units have been sold on the crowdsourced design site Quirky since the project was selected by its users as worthy of investment in September 2012. Hundreds of thousands of eggs have been separated since. []
