Danny MacAskill Jumps the Moon
The Shot: Professional street trials rider Danny MacAskill doing his thing during the solar eclipse on March 20, 2015, on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.
The Photographer: Rutger Pauw / Red Bull Content Pool
The Full Story: MacAskill, one of the adventure world’s favorite YouTubers for his audacious cycling stunt clips, returned to his home on the Isle of Skye for this joint project with photographer Rutger Pauw, a former BMX competitor. Mother Nature was serving up a caliber of solar eclipse that only comes around once every 16 years, and provides about a one-minute time window to get the shot. Taken on the Quiraing, Old Norse for “round fold,” a landslip on the Trotternish Ridge in the Scottish Highlands, the photo demanded equal parts precision from MacAskill and Pauw, who were nearly 1,000 feet apart and communicating by radio mics.
