There's no more famously unknown actors than those who played the costumed characters in the original Star Wars trilogy. They have their own action figures, fan clubs — from the Wookieepedia to a flourishing Boba Fett Fan Club — and weird fetishistic apparel. (Boba crocs anyone?) But who are they? The new documentary Elstree 1976 gives the most in-depth look to date of the actors behind the masks — or metal armor or Wookiee suits.
Capitalizing on the excitement drummed up by the latest Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, Elstree 1976 offers an insightful, behind-the-scenes documentary unmasking characters from the original trilogy and giving us a sense of what it was like to be on set in a quaint North London suburb while filming the most famous movie of all time.
The documentary lands in theaters May 6 (It'll also be available on VOD). If the trailer above is any indication of how badass the 'New Hope' extras from the original film really are, you might want to grab your Star Wars' blanket and take the Friday off from work.
