Beast Mode attempted to live up to his nickname on the latest episode of Running Wild With Bear Grylls. The NBC adventure show pairs celebrities with the survival expert for two-day expeditions, and it's seen Zac Efron eating worms, Channing Tatum killing (and eating) rattlesnakes, and it even got a visit from President Obama, to hike glaciers and talk climate change. In this episode Grylls and Lynch head to the wild mountains of Corsica, a French island in the Mediterranean.

The duo spend their first day hiking through the rugged landscape and hunting a wild pig. It becomes immediately clear Lynch is much more comfortable facing down 300-pound linemen than 300-foot cliffs. It was a shame for the Super Bowl champ, because instead of spearing the pig as planned, Lynch and Grylls unintentionally scare it off a ledge. With Grylls belaying, Lynch loudly and begrudgingly rappels down to retrieve it.

Butchering the pig doesn't go much more smoothly — Lynch's exact words: "It was straight nasty." But Grylls packed the running back's favorite snack, Skittles, to smooth things over.

The episode includes a couple of its usual interludes with the guests talking about their childhood and the tough life lessons they've learned. To aspiring pro athletes, Lynch says to always have a backup plan (his was a social work degree from Cal). But the most impressive highlight came as the two used one of Lynch's dreadlocks as tinder to start their campfire — a feat Grylls admitted he'd never done before.

The journey ends with a difficult scramble back up a steep, exposed grade. And the two are "surprised" to find French soldiers who happen to be driving by on a nearby road and willing to give them a lift.

By the end, Lynch reflects that while he wouldn't repeat the experience, he was better for it: "Do shit you ain't done before, that's what Beast Mode is all about."
