How many times have you bitterly selected a series or movie on Netflix knowing that there was something better out there? The streaming service has made it their mission to bring the whole of Hollywood to their users’ fingertips, and one could say they have done almost too good a job. It seems like every day there is a new hit series, beloved classic, hilarious comedy special, or blockbuster thriller added to the fray. You could easily spend hours just browsing through the options without ever hitting play. So we put the time in combing through the roster to make sure you don’t miss the best picks, both new and classic.

For The Action

Because no matter what century you are in, there are always bad guys.

New: Marvel’s Iron Fist (Avail. 3/17)

Marvel enthusiasts have been awaiting “the fourth Defender” to finally be making his appearance and that appearance is finally here. Finn Jones plays the titular kung-fu superhero entrusted to fight evildoers with his fiery Iron Fist.

Classic: Jurassic Park (Avail. 3/1)

Jurassic World made well over a billion dollars at the box office, but the most beloved of the franchise is undoubtedly the original. The special effects in Stephen Spielberg’s dinosaur adventure manage to hold up to this day. Bonus: Jeff Goldblum.

For The Laughs

Sometimes you just need a good chuckle.

New: Jim Norton: Mouthful of Shame (Avail. 3/14)

Subscribers to Sirius XM know this provocative comedian well thanks to his popular morning radio show with Sam Roberts. Known for his regular sets at New York City’s iconic Comedy Cellar, expect finely tuned (and delightfully offensive) jokes.

Classic: Blazing Saddles (Avail. 3/1)

Undeniably one of Mel Brooks’ best, this uproarious Wild West–set comedy pokes fun of the Hollywood complex in classic style. The script was co-written by Richard Pryor and the cast features Dom DeLuise, Cleavon Little, and the late Gene Wilder.

For The Drama

It is so much more fun to watch when it isn’t your own.

New: Hands Of Stone (Avail. 3/8)

Edgar Ramirez dominates the screen as legendary boxer Roberto Duran in this movie following the champion’s career from childhood to “No Mas.” Hollywood heavyweight Robert DeNiro stars as his coach Ray Arcel.

Classic: Memento (Avail. 3/1)

Before The Dark Knight franchise brothers Christopher and Jonathan Nolan collaborated on this tense thriller about a man plagued by memory loss while on a quest to avenge his wife. Leading man Guy Pearce told Men's Journal he still gets asked about the end to this day.

For The Truth

Finally there is a place to see poignant documentaries beyond the film festivals.

New: Impossible Dreamers (Avail. 3/1)

If you are looking for inspiration to get out on the trail or into the gym look no further than this documentary about a group of Senior Athletes (ages 60–94) who refuse to kick back in retirement.

Classic: The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress (Avail. 3/1)

This month Netflix will drop a number of 1940s documentaries focusing on WWII in coordination with the release of their original film Five Came Back. Do not miss this 1944 picture about the final flight of the famous Memphis Belle B-17F Flying Fortress, and war heroes that manned her.

For The Family

PG doesn’t have to mean Passing Grade. Here is great entertainment for all ages.

New: Pete’s Dragon (Avail. 3/14)

Directed by Sundance star filmmaker David Lowery, this remake of the 1977 musical about the relationship between an orphan boy and the dragon he befriends is worthy of a living room screening. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone called it a family film that “you can take to heart.”

Classic: Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Avail. 3/24)

Still highly regarded amongst the critical community, this groundbreaking comedy about a private detective who helps a “Toon” Roger Rabbit accused of murder famously blended live-action with animation. It should be noted that this might not be for all ages; discretion is advised for the younger ones.
