A Weak-Ass Debate Sketch for the Cold Open
I'd love to be proven wrong about this, but SNL has really codified its political duty in the years since Obama/McCain/Palin/Biden. In 2012 and even during the primaries for 2016, they trudged through debate sketches that were often content to just repeat stuff the candidates said with the mildest cartoon exaggeration. SNL assumes people expect or even demand this, and they may not be wrong; on the heels of the most-watched presidential debate ever and Baldwin already announced to appear as Trump, expect an overlong debate sketch without much satirical edge to kick off Season 42. Probably the best you can hope for is a lack of false equivalency in the Trump/Clinton comparisons.
