Climate Change at Sundance: 8 Exciting New Documentaries

This year at the Sundance Film Festival, amidst the celebrity pomp and circumstance in Park City, a large group will be taking a serious look at the most important crisis facing our planet. This year for the first time the festival will have a theme, "New Climate," for which director John Cooper was tasked with selecting a slate of environmentally focused programming. While Sundance has a strong environmental history — past years have featured the unveiling of Blackfish, The Cove, Chasing Ice, and others — Robert Redford felt 2017 needed something extra. "My own engagement on climate change began more than 40 years ago, and the urgency I felt then has only grown stronger given its very real and increasingly severe consequences,” he told Men's Journal by email. “If we’re going to avoid the worst-case scenario, then we must act boldly and immediately, even in the face of indifference, apathy, and opposition." Here are eight titles that will premiere under New Climate that we can’t wait for, including the highly anticipated sequel to An Inconvenient Truth.
