Sat 1/14: Gleason (Amazon)
It is a beautiful thing when an incredible story finds a competent and skilled filmmaker. That is what happened when New Orleans Saints defenseman Steve Gleason decided to share his battle with ALS with the cameras, and accomplished director Clay Tweel was allowed to help him. Beloved for the blocked-punt play he made during the Saints’ first game back after Hurricane Katrina, Gleason retired from football young and was shortly diagnosed with the brutal, and usually fatal, disease. It is affecting to see a man with such incredible physicality lose it slowly over time, but inspirational to see how he perseveres with the help of his friends and equally inspiring wife, Michel. Regardless of whether you have someone battling with medical issues or not, this is a must watch.
