Sun 10/2: Westworld (HBO)
Commonly the announcement of a new series about an adults-only, Old West amusement park set in the future would raise an eyebrow, but Westworld was created by sci-fi icon Michael Crichton. The author wrote the characters out in a script, which was developed and released as his directorial debut in 1973 to modest success. Now HBO is premiering a series based on that film, from the capable hands of The Dark Knight writer Jonathan Nolan and Star Wars helmer J.J. Abrams. Not to mention the cast is stacked with stars like Anthony Hopkins (in his first television role), Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, and Jeffrey Wright.
