Billy Jack (1973)
Tom Laughlin wrote, directed, and starred in this passion project about an ex-Green Beret and secret hapkido master who rides in to the rescue of a local freedom school. He does so on a Triumph T100C 500 with high pipes — that is, when he’s not galloping in on a wild horse. Though one of four pictures centered on the character of Billy Jack, this is the standout just above Born Losers.
The Scene: Freedom school teacher Delores Taylor stares admiringly at Billy Jack, while worrying out loud about the prejudices against her students. He kick-starts his ride to drive off, but not before grabbing her and coolly saying, “What’s going to happen tomorrow is going to happen, and all your worrying in the world isn’t going to change that.”
