On Any Sunday (1971)
Often called the most important motorcycle documentary ever made and nominated for an Oscar in 1972, this movie tries to convey the spirit of the motorcycle racer, across multiple disciplines, through in-depth interviews and footage from the track. Produced by Steve McQueen’s Solar Productions, the film rings true largely thanks to his passion for the sport and director Bruce Brown’s skill at capturing the moment.
The Scene: The film cameras managed to be there when four different racers were competing to be the AMA champion at the Sacramento Mile Track, making for a riveting sequence. McQueen expertly narrates the drama unfolding like no one else could.
