The Great Escape (1963)
Steve McQueen had a passion for the motorcycle with over 100 machines in his personal garage. It’s no wonder he looked so at ease on top of the 1961 Triumph TR6 Trophy in this POW story, taking place during WWII. Though the true story the movie was based didn’t involve bikes at all, McQueen requested that they be written into the script, and they have since become the most memorable scenes by far.
The Scene: McQueen’s character Captain Virgil Hilts makes a daring attempt to escape by jumping over a barbed wire fence on his Triumph. Though he makes the first incredible jump, he wrecks his bike on the second length of fence.
