Mon, 4/3: The Great Train Robbery
Back in 1963 a Royal Mail train was heading from Glasgow to London when it was held up by a gang of 15 robbers. Director Chris Chibnall, who shows the events from the perspective of the criminals and then the police, brings that historic event to the screen. Luke Evans excels in the role of the gang’s leader, Bruce Reynolds, whose high-rolling lifestyle is supplied by his thievery. The soundtrack is superb as well, including period-appropriate music like Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman.” The result of all of these elements together makes for a two-part British program that is an entertaining and exciting watch.
