Sun 6/18: America’s War On Drugs (History)
The war on drugs has spanned the course of five decades and cost our country roughly $1 trillion, not to mention the damage done to our youth. So even though this docu-series from History is eight hours, split into four parts, it can only give a glimpse into the scourge. The program reveals how the CIA allied itself with the mafia and foreign drug traffickers, trying to keep us safe from communists. From there it explores the unintended consequences of when gangsters, warlords, spies, outlaw entrepreneurs, street gangs, and politicians vie for power and control of the global black market for narcotics. The stories are told through the firsthand accounts of former CIA and DEA officers, major drug traffickers, gang members, experts, and insiders.
