On first glance the Raleigh Tripper has the looks of a fixed-gear bike built more for show than go. But looks are deceiving: Because the world isn't flat, the bike sports an internal gearbox in the rear hub that lets you switch to easier speeds, and its disc brakes stop on a dime so you can be prepared for slick streets or surly cabbies. Bonus: It's steel, and therefore stronger and easier to ride than aluminum. [$900; raleighusa.com]
