In the heart of the Great Lakes region along the Michigan-Ontario border, nestled between Lake Huron and Erie, is VanDam's favorite home state spot. "There is no better smallmouth bass fishery in the world right now than Lake St. Clair," says VanDam. The lake may not be as well known as its bigger brothers nearby, but it's home to all of the same great species of fish: largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, salmon, lake trout, and more – all within the Detroit metro-area. The Kalamazoo, Michigan native recently hosted a fishing tournament on St. Clair with the Detroit Lions. "Everyone talks about the good ole days, but for St. Clair, that's right now," says VanDam.
