Arguably the most iconic landmark in New York City (and potentially the whole U.S.) is The Statue of Liberty. On West 35th Street, around the corner from Herald Square, sits The Liberty, a bar and restaurant designed to honor Our Lady and the city she watches over. Decorated to pay tribute to the lobby of Rockefeller Center and the former Cloud Club in the Chrysler Building, The Liberty is a welcome respite from the hustle of the surrounding cityscape. The homestyle American fare includes the buttermilk southern fried chicken sandwich, the Liberty Burger, and a New York strip. It's also a popular Big Apple brunch destination.

The drinks menu includes a myriad of wines, local and national craft beers, and cocktails crafted in honor of the five boroughs. Bartender Nicole Trzaska suggests diving into the menu by imbibing "The All American," a bourbon-driven drink that also includes maple syrup, bitters, and a strip of crispy bacon. "I was inspired by out of the box brunch concepts," says Trzaska. "People who enjoy the mouth-watering taste of a great piece of bacon and those who enjoy maple syrup will be extremely content with this offering. Few things are as tried-and-true American as bourbon, and pairing it with salty bacon and Crown Maple Syrup instantly created a brunch cocktail in a glass."

Trzaska enjoys the cocktail with a plate of Eggs Benedict, her favorite dish on the Liberty menu. "Its vibrant and well-rounded flavors really pair well with The All American." Or, if you like, the drink can be enjoyed as an after dinner aperitif.

Here's how to make one at home:

The All American
1-½ parts bacon infused Maker's Mark® Bourbon*
1/4 part Maple Syrup
3-4 dashes Angostura Bitters
Strip of cooked bacon for garnish

*How to make bacon Infused Maker's Mark® Bourbon:
1. Cook 3-4 strips of thick bacon, enough to yield 1 ounce of fat (eat the bacon after!)
2. Once bacon fat has cooled to room temperature, pour in to a storage container
3. Add 750mL Maker's Mark® Bourbon, cover and freeze overnight
4. Using a fine mesh sieve, strain bourbon in to a new container removing large bits of bacon
5. Lastly, double strain your bourbon back in to the bottle.

In a rocks glass, stir bitters and Crown Maple, top with bacon infused bourbon. Add ice and garnish with a strip of cooked bacon. Enjoy!
