With San Francisco enjoying a warmer than normal summer, business is bustling at Mollusk Surf Shop. Owner John McCambridge, who established Mollusk in 2005, is busy designing tees with his wife Johanna St. Clair and spearheading the store's well-curated collection of knickknacks – boards, shorts, sunglasses, and even surf photography – that line the walls of the beach-bum outpost.

Though avid surfers have spread the Mollusk word up and down the California coastline, it's the brand's tees that have made waves globally. Simple and soft, the lightweight shirts depict scenes from the local area – pelicans with outstretched wings, surf breaks, and rising suns – each designed by an artist handpicked by McCambridge and 'The Mollusk Family' (local artists who show their work at the shop's gallery). Every tee is custom-made for the brand's two shops (the other is in Venice Beach), and undergoes a wash and dye process to ensure the look is pre-shrunk, lightly weathered, and perfectly soft. Ranging in color from faded navy (Olde Whale Tee) to Harvard Red (Country Sun Tee), the shirts' hues are statement-makers in themselves. So go ahead and wear one alone atop shorts or underneath a muted V-neck for an unexpected pop of color – because you don't always have to live in the Bay Area to look California cool.
