Wood takes center stage in Dude No. 1, the first ever men's cologne by cult perfumery MCMC Fragrances. The all-natural scent, made with 100% pure botanical ingredients, blends Virginia cedarwood, a smoky Haitian vetiver, and creamy sandalwood. Accenting this carpenter's bouquet are spicy ginger and pepper, both softened slightly by a dollop of Moroccan rose. Surprisingly, it's the floral scent that gives the cologne a uniting character: It's boldly masculine, but not so macho as to be out of touch with its sensitive side.

The cologne is based on the brand's wildly popular beard oil, also called Dude No. 1, which became a must-have for any guy with a beard back in 2010 (and is still a great pick). According to MCMC founder and perfumer, Anne Serrano-McClain, the scent was so popular that guys without beards were using the oil (which is housed in a travel-friendly roll on) as a cologne on their wrists and neck. The new cologne, a spray that's slightly less musky, clearly follows in the footsteps of its predecessor. [$75 an ounce; shop.mcmcfragrances.com]
