In November 2003, the management of the recently relocated Ravens announced this team's new name and unveiled a fresh new logo. The name? The Primaries. The logo? An elephant and a donkey holding bats. Far from happy with this result, the New Hampshire Union Leader took the team to task for focusing on a national event rather than the Granite State's native gifts. Management relented and asked fans to make suggestions. The Granite State Mountain Men was a pretty solid contender, but the Fisher Cats, a nod to an obscure species of predatory feline, won the day. The team adopted a logo featuring an angry looking cat, but still sometimes wears its slightly more politically charged alternate cap, which features Uncle Sam participating in a baseball draft. We like the hat because of the history. Samuel Wilson, who inspired the Uncle Sam character, grew up in Mason, New Hampshire, before rising to prominence as a supplier of food for troops during the War of 1812. [$20; milbstore.com]
