Encounters at the End of the World (2007)
Herzog has incorporated footage from Antarctica in his 2005 film The Wild Blue Yonder. In this film, he tackles the continent head-on–though it's more about the collection of people he meets along the way, including unlikely musicians and philosophers, and a guy who knows the politics of Antarctic cafeteria soft serve very well. The film benefits from Herzog's eye for unsettling images: amidst the stunning Antarctic landscapes and uncanny underwater recordings, there's also a scene in which a penguin trots off towards mountains in the distance, sure to perish along the way, for no discernible reason. The world can be an inexplicable place, and Herzog's work never loses sight of that.
