The fifth stop of Sierra Nevada's Beer Camp Across America brought us to Philadelphia, the beating heart of the Mid-Atlantic beer scene, which brags big breweries like Dogfish Head, Victory, and Yuengling. It's also one of the most burgeoning scenes for the little guys, with nearly 150 breweries in Pennsylvania alone. We sampled dozens of beers at the festival that you'll be hard-pressed to find outside the Mid-Atlantic. Here are our favorites.
The Brewery: ShawneeCraft, East Stroudsburg, Pennyslvania
The Beer: Apiarius
Tasting Notes: The first thing you'll notice on this pale ale are the sweet floral notes, coming from the honey gathered from the beehives on the brewery's premises along the Delaware river. This is a crisp, but malty, pale ale that has a hoppy, grassy backbone. Like the brewery, it's an intriguing beer — the kind you might want to drink as you walk along a wooded, riverside path.
