Over 100 craft brewers poured their wares at the Portland stop of Sierra Nevada's epic beer festival. We dove deep into the local Portland beers and found that, with a few exceptions, our favorites tended to fall into one of two categories: rustic, low alcohol quaffers, and massively hoppy pale ales and IPAs. Here are 10 that stood out from the pack.
Newburgh Brewing Company's Checkpoint Charlie:
The Brewery: Newburgh Brewing Company, a brewery in Newburgh, New York, was started by Chris Basso who learned the trade under Garret Oliver at Brooklyn Brewery. Basso was clearly paying attention because this isn't the first great beer we've tasted from his fledgling operation since they started selling beer in 2012.

The Beer: Checkpoint Charlie Berliner Weisse
Tasting Notes: Checkpoint Charlie features a light wheat base with a clean lactic (yogurt-like) sourness and prickly carbonation. Highly refreshing and eminently drinkable.
