Over 100 craft brewers poured their wares at the Portland stop of Sierra Nevada's epic beer festival. We dove deep into the local Portland beers and found that, with a few exceptions, our favorites tended to fall into one of two categories: rustic, low alcohol quaffers, and massively hoppy pale ales and IPAs. Here are 10 that stood out from the pack.
Oxbow Brewing Company's Grizacca: Newcastle, Maine
The Brewery: Oxbow Brewing Company brews their beers in small batches in a converted barn in Newcastle, Maine. They focus on Belgian style beers with an American influence.
The Beer: Grizacca
Tasting Notes: Grizacca is brewed in the tradition of a grissette, the traditional drink served to miners in Belgium. The style had a brief heyday in the late 1800s before dying out almost completely. They're light bodied, low alchohol quaffers. Sound like a saison? Modern interpretations are almost identical. Oxbow's interpretation also features an American citrusy hop twist.
