Transamerica Chicago Triathlon
It's not a surprise to find triathletes in San Diego. But in Chicago, with its blustery winters and painfully brief summers, you might be surprised to find a thriving tri community. It so happens that the Windy City is one of the sport's hotbeds and the Transamerica Tri pulls in more than 10,000 athletes from more than 20 countries, including a pro field of about 100 and a host of tri clubs slugging it out at the race-within-a-race USA Triathlon Club Nationals Championships. If you're more interested in building your trip around deep dish pizza and hot dogs, this year, the race offers a beginner-friendly Divvy wave within it's SuperSprint distance where racers use bikes borrowed from the city's Divvy bike share program.
The Course: Supersprint distance (375-meter swim, 10k bike, 2.5k run), Sprint distance (750-meter swim, 22k bike, 5k run), International distance (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run)
Where: Chicago, IL
When: August 24, 2014
