Finding the Game, by Gwendolyn Oxenham

A former star soccer player for Duke University, looking for memoir fodder, takes off on a round-the-world trip in search of pick-up games. She takes along cameras, a ball, her boyfriend (a former college player himself), and two other buddies. They look for action in places like Trinidad, where they "take a sweat" with a bunch of locals until "the candle goes out," (the sun goes down) and Buenos Aires where a four-day search for a game yields an inspired contest with both teenagers and old men in a town built underneath a highway overpass.
