The U.S. is notoriously one of the most violent countries in the first world, with many high profile cities like Baltimore and New Orleans seemingly stuck with high levels of crime and corruption. More surprising is relatively sleepy St. Louis. Though a model city in many ways, with a vibrant cultural scene, top-shelf pro sports franchises, and solid tourism, the Gateway to the West also happens to regularly rank in the top 5 of most dangerous cities in the country, with murder and crime rates that remain nearly three times the national average – in an era when crime is dropping across the country.
