Keep Your Claim Local
"If your luggage does go missing, make sure you file your claim right away — the sooner the better," says Spagnola. "Also ask for the phone number of the particular baggage counter you're working with — a direct line. They'll give you a toll-free number, but if you can get a direct line to the person who filled out the claim, that can expedite the process." Ask for the person's name or operator number, too — this can create continuity and may help you retrieve your bag.
