The body is always detoxing and cleansing – that's part of what your liver, kidneys, and lungs do – but sometimes it can use a boost. (Think post-weekend in Vegas, feeling sluggish or bloated – or just too addicted to a nightly dose of sugar, cheese, or alcohol.) Dr. Frank Lipman, an integrative doctor whose patients include Kevin Bacon and David Letterman, says you can hit the reset button on your diet – no starvation or liquefied salad dinners required. "If you feel deprived, you're not going to be successful," says Lipman. Follow these tips for a minimum of 10 days (if you can go two weeks, so much the better) to kick start a healthier way of eating, ditch your bad habits – and shed those last five pounds.
4. Sugar is the Enemy
Parasites adore sugar and everything that turns to it, so by eliminating it you'll be starving them out (as well as resetting your palate). Sugar also means fruit, so limit yourself to three portions a day and stick to berries, which are low-glycemic. Also avoid corn, which is high-sugar. If all of these cuts are leaving you wondering what's left to eat, check Dr. Lipman's Pinterest page for some recipe ideas.
