Even if you're eating all the right foods, you may still not feel 100 percent because of toxicity in the gut – bad bacteria, parasites, and yeast – which Lipman says comes from too much sugar and antibiotics in the standard American diet. To clean out the toxins, he recommends anti-microbials such as raw garlic, coconut oil (its medium-chain triglycerides are said to boost the immune system in its battle against pathogens), and dried oregano. You can also find so-called herbal antibiotics such as golden seal, black walnut extract, and wormwood in health food stores.
