Cycling: Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands
For some of the most remote mountain biking in the world, you'll have to head 100 miles off the coast of British Columbia to Haida Gwaii. Home to the native Haida tribe, one of the First Nations, you'll want to follow the old logging roads that crisscross the island, looking for fresh lines or some of the few mapped rides in this wilderness. Just plan accordingly — you are pretty much off-the-grid here, bring all of the equipment you will need.
Getting there also requires some planning. Air Canada offers daily flights from Vancouver that will allow you to bring your bike, or you can take the multi-day ferry to the island. The best jumping-off point is the town of Sandspit (pop. 538) on the eastern side of the island.
