Il Salviatino (Florence, Italy)
Set in the Fiesole hillside overlooking Florence, Il Salviatino — which has a sister property in Verona — began its life as a 15th century palazzo and reinvented itself in 2010 as an exclusive villa retreat that somehow manages to pack more than 500 years of history into each of its 45 rooms in the most modern way possible. Impeccably refurbished, Il Salviatino's accommodations feature many of the property's original touch, like the wood paneling that surrounds the rooms and the color of the roses that line the al fresco English gardens. There are antique tubs, but also separate rain showers with LED lighting, not to mention Nespresso coffee machines and Internet-ready plasma TVs hidden inside antique mirrors. It all works together in a magical way, and is just minutes from downtown Florence. The hotel even provides a shuttle to and from the city throughout the day — if you ever decide to leave.
