It's little wonder that Oklahoma City – home to one of the world's largest cattle yards – claims the nation's best steak and burger joints. The atmosphere at the 103-year-old Cattlemen's Steakhouse is a little too Golden Corral, but its marbled and tender center-cut sirloin is perfection. Nic's Grill, a 15-seat upstart, serves up a juicy half-pound burgers in a basket (with greasy fries) that locals call the best in the West. An hour south is Meers Store & Restaurant, located in an old mining town. The waitresses are surly, but the fresh quartered chuck burgers are so fresh they're practically gamey.
