Obstacle races are badly named. The Tough Mudder, Goruck Nasty, and Spartan Race force participants to handle a series of hazards on their way to the finish line. There are only a handful of physical challenges on Earth that force competitors to confront a single, nearly insurmountable obstacle and overcome it. These events separate the boys from the men from the superheroes and they are as fun as they are difficult
These six tests of athletes heroism are arduous, complicated, and technical. They also each test a different superhero trait. No one will ever master all of them, but if you focus on the one you're best suited to attempt, you'll have the opportunity to prove your mettle once and for all. You'll never be superman, but that doesn't mean you can't have one super power. Choose yours and prepare for a true test.
Held the last Sunday in January in Perton, England, the Tough Guy Competition is an eight-mile race designed to do one thing: inflict pain. The course is basically the backdrop of Saw and participants are subjected in short order to cuts, burns, dehydration, hypothermia, claustrophobia, electric shocks, sprains, joint dislocation, and, a lot of the time, broken bones. More than a third of participants don't make it to the finishing line. Those that do have serious bragging rights.
