From pills to surgery to therapy, there is no shortage of suggestions for how to improve sexual performance. We don't have any quick fixes that work for everyone but there is a fairly simple rule of thumb that can help. In general, healthy lifestyle choices – like a good diet, ample exercise, and stress reduction – will improve a man's sexual functioning the most. "Not only do diet and exercise help prevent sexual problems from occurring in men in the first place, they can also reverse it," says Dr. Alan W. Shindel, assistant professor of urology at UC Davis. While a pill may work as temporary fix, healthy life changes are potential permanent solutions to sexual issues. Here are some of the lifestyle choices that will make the biggest difference in the bedroom.
Although lowered inhibitions can increase desire, alcohol's physical effects may get in the way of your good time. Not only has drinking been shown to decrease libido and arousal, it has also been found to lessen the ability to attain orgasm. Even when achieved, an orgasm under the influence is likely to be less intense. Like smoking, long-term alcohol use can cause permanent damage but instead of messing up your blood vessels, it can wreak havoc on your nerves, creating feelings of tingling pain or numbness.
