Divide your space into distinct sections. "I like to dissect a lawn into different areas for entertaining and cooking, lounging and eating," says Durie. "Put some key spaces along the boundaries to pull people out into the yard." Knibb suggests creating an impromptu lounge area: "Toss down air mattresses, pool rafts, and a pile of cushions and then cover them with beach towels."
