Mushing Across the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Minnesota
Set out with a pack of Canadian Inuit dogs from the Wintergreen Dogsledding Lodge in northern Minnesota for a multiday glide across enormous frozen lakes and through thick pine forests. Hop off the sled for cross-country skiing, skijoring, and snowshoeing, and sleep in self-made snow shelters under the northern lights.
Beverage of choice: “Nanny’s Tea,” a calorie-rich Northwoods tradition, made from warm milk, melted butter, vanilla pudding, and a dash of cinnamon. Trust us, you’ll crave it.
Be sure to pack: A balaclava to protect your face and ears from freezing winds
Book it: From $250 per day for lunch, instruction and a guide, $150 per half-day, dogsledding.com, December through March
