The Greatest Finish of All Time
The closest finish occurred in 1960, when only eight seconds separated first and second place. For their efforts, the teams are rewarded less handsomely than one might expect for such a long test that costs at least €11,500 to enter (roughly $12,500), and millions more to compete. The winner receives €40,000 Euros (roughly $43,000), second place earns €25,000 and third nets €20,000. There are also four individual classes and Le Mans, with each being awarded €10,000.
