Norway: Instead of Oslo, go to Stavanger
Norway is all about spectacular landscapes and outdoor adventuring, from skiing with fjord views and golfing under the midnight sun to base jumping. And while the capital, Oslo, certainly has some pleasing fjords views and pretty surrounding forests, the nature there can't compare with what's on the doorstep of Norway's oil capital, Stavanger. The city recently got connected with nonstop flights from Houston on SAS, making it more accessible than ever from North America (note: the flights are business class only, and priced for executives). And Norwegian Air Shuttle's low cost flights from North America (with a stopover in Oslo) have also made the city more accessible. Mingle with the well-heeled in Stavanger's small downtown before heading for the hills around the majestic Lysefjord, home to harrowing hiking trails and plenty of basejumping and paragliding launch points.
