Portlandia jokes aside, this quirky West Coast city lives up to its hippie-health-haven reputation. Residents eat nutritiously, thanks to an abundance of farmers markets and haute-healthy cafés and food trucks, and they don't sit around. Pedaling or walking to work is the norm, and with many more green spaces and dog parks than in most metros, Portlandians stay active outdoors rain or shine. Surprisingly, the city still has lots of smokers, diabetics, and people with not-so-great mental health. So for the Rose City to rank so high, it means that for every American Spirit–sucking hipster parked in a Pearl District pub, there are two or three über-active dudes trying to shave minutes of their 10K times.
