For the mod Renaissance man. New York-based designer Karim Rashid created the friendly-sounding PAL armchair, part of a family that also includes tables and stools. The shape recalls a folding Savonarola chair, or X-chair, which originated in Medieval Europe, but is updated in both form and material. It's made from polyethylene resin through advanced rotational molding techniques, and comes in eight colors. Grab some red wine, pull these out onto the deck, fire up the projector and aim it at the windowless side of your house, and catch up on season two of 'The Borgias.'
