Serious golfers know how important a great short game can be, but hitting the putting green is a bore. Instead, head to a miniature golf course and get competitive. Only three putters have ever hit an 18 and, on the right day, under the right circumstances, you could be number four. Give it a shot at one of the best courses in the country.
Steamboat Landing, Maine
If you want to soak up a city's or state's culture, mini golf usually isn't the way to do it. But sometimes it is, like when you play Maine-themed mini golf at Steamboat Landing. Located in Naples, the course features Pine Tree State landmarks – even the Maine Turnpike – and a Maine Black Bear among its holes. It's been around for more than 30 years, making it both a lesson on Maine society and a cultural establishment in its own right.
