Let’s be clear about this up front: America is a big country. Really big. And inside that vastness are lots and lots of mountains, streams, lakes, rivers, reservoirs, and canals. There are more than 95,000 miles of ocean coastline and, beyond that coastline, lots of deep water accessible by half- or full-day boat trips.
So when rounding up the 11 best places to fish in the U.S.,there may be one or two folks out there who think they know a place that was overlooked. And they’re right. But these are the best places to catch the widest range of fish, with a nod to geographical diversity and wilderness beauty. With that out of the way, here you have it - an arguably indispensable list of must-fish destinations in the U.S.
Most people think South Beach and nightclubs when they think of Miami. Anglers think of the proximity to some of the best deep sea and freshwater fishing in the country. Take a charter for a deep sea trip, or something closer to home in Biscayne Bay, and you can haul in anything from bonefish and tarpon, to bigger fare like marlin. As if that weren’t enough, Miami is striking distance from the Florida Everglades, a swampy expanse that offers one of the most unique fishing settings in the world. It’s also just an hour-and-a-half from Islamorada, the so-called “Sport Fishing Capital of the World.”
