Booze as Social Lubricant
Most people would probably say that a little alcohol makes socializing easier. A recent study from the University of Pittsburgh backed that belief up, particularly for men. The study compared groups of men and women who drank vodka cranberries, a placebo drink (that smelled of vodka), or a nonalcoholic drink. People who drank the alcohol spent more time talking with each other and, in men, the number of "true" smiles increased to match the number found in both sober and drinking women. People in the alcohol groups were also more likely to smile contagiously and involve everyone in conversation.
