Check Out the Arts and Culture Scene
Whether you are an art aficionado or a science nerd, there is nothing wrong with getting educated while on vacation. The Phoenix Art Museum makes for an enjoyable afternoon of wandering (the photography exhibit, with 80,000 works by 2,000 photographers, including works from Ansel Adams and Richard Avedon, is particularly cool) — you might even be able to take in an indie film or live performance while there. If you have kids in tow, the Arizona Science Center and Musical Instrument Museum can offer an afternoon of hands-on exploration. At the Arizona Science Center, the Evans Family SkyCycle is suspended nearly 15 feet on a 90-foot cable in the air and teaches riders about the principles of counterbalance and center of gravity. The Musical Instrument Museum, the world's only global instrument museum, has 6,000-plus instruments collected from 200 countries and territories, and hosts the kid-friendly Experience Gallery where guests are invited to strum, shake, and bang instruments to their heart's content.
