Newport Folk Festival
Location: Newport, Rhode Island
Dates: July 22 – 24
For being the festival where Bob Dylan first went electric, the Newport Folk Festival has remained remarkably modest. Once the premiere folk festival in the United States, it was revived in 1985 as a family-friendly event featuring the best alternative country and banjo rock in the world. The picturesque Fort Adams State Park, situated at the mouth of the Newport Harbor, serves as the host for four styles of music, craft booths, and food stands serving locals eats, like fresh lobster rolls. In an effort to keep the ceremonies sustainable, the founders have set up a partnership with REI and Bike Newport so that attendees can cruise to the tunes.
