Last winter, our crew took to the mountains and tested 97 pairs of the prototype skis, 20 of the latest snowboards, and a handful of accessories in a full range of conditions, including ice, man-made, groomed trails, and powder. We whittled down the entrants to the ski selections you see here (and snowboards here).
Fischer Hybrid 8.0
BEST FOR GROOMED TERRAIN
Engage a switch near the tip of the 8.0 and the front of the ski bends upward, creating rocker. Release it and the ski returns to a traditional camber construction. Our advice: Keep the switch engaged. In camber mode, the skis are sluggish. In rocker mode, turn initiation is easy, and they float through afternoon crud and hold an arc well on groomers.
