Choose chocolate over sugar candy – the darker, the better.

In general, chocolate is better for your heart and overall health than sugary candy like Twizzlers or Starbursts. Chocolate is loaded with antioxidants that have been shown to help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol and that may even lower the risk of depression and diabetes. Dark chocolate like Hershey's Extra Dark and Dove Dark Promises have more cocoa and healthy antioxidants – and less artery-clogging butterfat – than regular milk chocolate. But don't be fooled by dark varieties from Milky Way and Snickers: Both contain more caramel and nougat than they do that creamy, rich, cholesterol-lowering chocolate.
